Woodfast MC908 Lathe: Why is it Better?

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

I found the Creek a few months ago, and have gained so much. I have been using my Dad’s 60+ year old benchtop Craftsman lathe having a ball, but its time to get my own now. I found a Woodfast Lathe Mc908 thats 13 years old, has a 16″ swing, and is about 40″ long. It has a closed cabinet at a lower place it and weighs over 400 pounds. It is NOT variable speed, it has 4 speed pulleys. The person is asking $700, and that is a heap of dough for a 13 year old lathe, but I am sure about prices when they were new, so I am trying to factor that in to the price. It is a 1 1/2 h.p. motor. I would really like to turn some bowls. Please give me some advice . Is this a fair deal? I can’t seem to find anything on the internet or ebay for a extension, and even here on the Creek I can’t really find any info. Any advice would really be appreciated .

My view is that it is plausible a pretty fair price not a steal but not real high. If you are more interested in bowls that spindles I would probably consider Nova’s 1624 as well or the Jet 708359.  It is in around the same price wander.
I have a Woodfast VS that I bought used and they made a good lathe. IF you buy it you will be  happy.

I have a very well cared for Woodfast MC908 lathe for sale. I bought it new from Craft Supplies USA in 1990. I recently had the opportunity to get a great deal on a larger Vicmarc, otherwise this would be a everlastingly lathe. Swing is 16″, handles at least 36″ between centers, is 1-1/2hp with a Leeson DC motor and Leeson variable speed control. I have it wired 220v . I have the virgin Woodfast center steady, 6 and 12 inch toolrests, and 3 additional tool rests for bowl work. Lathe weighs someplace around 500 lbs. It has performed flawlessly since I bought it, and if I had room, I’d keep it. Woodfast lathes were manufactured Down Under . They went burst I believe. At any rate, Rikon bought the name and makes a Woodfast series currently. Very nice lathe. I am located in Visalia, Californi

Reviews:
This monitor has performed well. The wide screen makes for a much better view of whatever is being observed. Great value for that price. I propose it to anyone needing a monitor.

This VA1931wa ViewSonic monitor provides crisp, clear images which is the ideal size for my desktop use. I used a ViewSonic monitor, purchased about a decade ago, and am pleased to discover that incredible product quality and reliability are already maintained. I endorse the product!

This is an excellent monitor! 1080i / 720p resolution, no flickering and crisp ! At that price, why bother try any less costly brand!  This Viewsonic LCD Monitor can provide your gaming together with your company. And so i guess this is an everything in one monitors for the price. Should you be looking for any quality as well as cost-effective brand this monitor could possibly be to suit your needs.
